MediaTek has made preparations in advance for Wi-Fi 8.
According to media reports, it is said that MediaTek is making preparations in advance to develop the next-generation WiFi 8 wireless technology. Although this industry standard is expected to be finalized only in 2028, MediaTek has already started the research and development work and plans to launch devices supporting WiFi 8 by the end of 2027, seizing the initiative in the new generation of wireless connection technology.
The report indicates that the penetration rate of WiFi 7 is expected to reach 30% to 40% by 2026. The market demand for the next-generation standard with higher speed, greater stability and larger bandwidth will continue to increase, especially in high-bandwidth scenarios such as AI, augmented/virtual/extended reality (AR/VR/XR).
WiFi 8 will bring about various improvements, including the optimization of the power amplifier (PA) structure, the enhancement of software performance, and the improvement of the accuracy and stability of data packet transmission. These advancements will provide a more reliable wireless foundation for high-performance computing, immersive entertainment, and intelligent connected devices.
According to MediaTek's 2024 Sustainability Report released on September 17th, Chairman Tsai Ming-chieh stated that they will adhere to the concept of "innovation through technology and sustainable development", aiming to create a smarter, greener and more sustainable future. Reviewing MediaTek's product innovations, in addition to expanding the application of the Tianwei AI ecosystem, the advanced wireless networking technology Wi-Fi 8 will also collaborate with the ecosystem to expand the extensive product portfolio.
